Angelbert Metoyer in Group Show Sponsored by Paper Magazine

The 10th anniversary of PAPERMAG.com is the inspiration behind Manhattan!, a multi-media and multilaterally creative month-long blowout featuring a group exhibition of works by over 70 New York City-based artists. Manhattan! is both a reaction to and a celebration of our artistic surroundings. The show was born of a desire to democratize the community, level the playing field and put all kinds of art in one room - cheap art next to expensive art, young art next to old art, street art next to high art - to enjoy the incongruity, diversity and the surprises so characteristic of downtown New York. The result is a panoramic view of the city's art scene from its Factory days to the present, featuring a wide variety of subcultures - psychedelia, disco, no-wave, punk rock, skateboard, graffiti, comic, goth, hip-hop, gay and academia. The show is curated by Carol Lee, the creative director of PAPERMAG.com, and hosted by PAPERMAG.com, Spencer Sweeney, Ronald T. Castellano, Larry Golden and Andrew WK at 100 Lafayette, a bi-level space soon to become an essential gathering place for music and art in lower Manhattan. In addition to the exhibit, the art works will be featured online at PAPERMAG.com. Location: 100 Lafayette Street, New York, New York, November 18 - December 17, 2005, Opening Reception: Friday, November 18, 7 - 10 p.m.

Angelbert Metoyer's Force of Nature

This is the first of four select presentations of new work to be held over the coming year at Paul Rodgers/9W Gallery, culminating in a public exhibtion of works drawn from the series.

Proud exponent of his Creole origins, Angelbert Metoyer presents five new paintings on canvas and paper in New York. People are standing in front of a shattered landscape, driven onto the highways toward flat horizons. Is there a return from exodus? Angelbert tells us that this has always been, is prefigured in his paintings, and that his art reckons with the force of nature.
"There is nothing wrong with being a serious man" (Nancy Kienholz in conversation with the artist).

Release of Gold Sounds Album, Cover Design by Michael Anderson

Imagine what it would have been like to go to a record store the day John Coltrane released "My Favorite Things" or The Allman Brothers released "Live at the Fillmore". Aside from the fact that great musicianship and song selection no longer seem to count in the music business, you can feel the same thing by buying "God Sounds," an album of Pavement songs recorded by an ad-hoc all-star jazz quartet featuring Downbeat Magazine saxophonist of the year James Carter, Cyrus Chestnut, recently called a legend by New York magazine, on keyboards, Reginald Veal, fat-bottom bassman of choice for discerning artist like Wynton Marsalis and Cassandra Wilson, and white hot drummer Ali Jackson, who has also worked with Marsalis and was recently compared to Art Blakey. Best of all, Gold Sounds was built to last, with a distinct and compelling narrative flow which will sustain your intersted and admiration over 45 minutes or so. So if you are ready to buy an album which is solely substantive, get Gold. Gold Sounds.
Check out the reviews of the album in the November 17th issue of Time Magazine and in the November issue of Rolling Stone. Contact Paul Rodgers/9W for more information.
